Editing a Moti that's already published is easy using drafts. In this guide we will go through the process of creating a draft so that you can make changes, and then publish the changes seamlessly to the published, live Moti 🎨
Changing a published Moti:
- Log into your Motimate account, and open Studio.
- Find and open the Moti you wish to update.
- Open the Editor for the Moti. A popup message will immediately be presented. Click Create a draft.
- You can now update your Moti, and make any changes you wish, including adding or removing chapters.
- When you are happy with the changes you have made, you click Approve and publish at the top of the screen (if you're not a Chief Editor or Organization Admin you will need to send the draft for approval before it can be published):
- A popup will appear and ask you what the consequences of the changes should be, and you will also be asked to decide whether or not you want to notify users of the changes via Push Notifications:
- Important updates:
This option will re-set the Moti for all users regardless of their previous progress, and require them to complete the whole Moti again from the start.
- New chapters:
If you have added any new chapters, this option will add the new chapters to the Moti, and re-open the Moti for all those who had previously completed it, and require them to complete the new chapters to again be 100% completed.
Minor changes:
This option will update the Moti with your new changes, but no users need to do anything. It is not possible to send Push notifications for this option.
How you choose to handle Push notifications in this step will not affect the main Push notification setting for the Moti. Please see here for more details.
Congratulations! You have now seamlessly updated your published Moti 👌
- Important updates:
If you cannot edit a Moti:
If you're added as an editor on a Moti, but still can't see any edit options
Make sure you opened the Moti in Studio:
- Go to Studio → Motis, find the course, and open it from there.
- The learner view / preview never shows edit controls, even if you are an editor.
Check the status of the Moti:
- Draft
- You should be able to edit chapters and content blocks.
- Published / Approved (“Godkjent”)
- The live version is read‑only. You cannot change it directly.
To update it, you must create a draft (see guide below) or, if your org uses approval, have it rejected and resubmitted.
Check your role and editor access:
- Confirm that:
- Your User Role allows editing (e.g. Training Editor, Chief Editor, Org Admin, etc.).
- You are actually listed as an Editor for that specific Moti.
Note: a user with role Normal user + editor access can edit Motis that are not yet approved/published, but cannot edit Motis that are already approved and published.
If the Moti is expired:
- Expired Motis can’t be edited directly. You can:
- Temporarily re‑publish the Moti, then create and edit a draft, or
Duplicate the Moti, edit the copy, and publish the new version.
If the Moti is shared from another organization:
- If the Moti was shared into your MotiSpace from another organisation, you can assign and publish it locally, but you cannot edit the content. Only the source organisation can do that.
- If the Moti was copied into your MotiSpace, you can edit it like any other local Moti.
